Most often, applicants receive a rejection in the form of a formal letter or do not send a response at all. But honest feedback in such cases is very useful, with its help you can avoid mistakes with other employers. We decided to figure out why recruiters rarely explain the reasons and how to correctly ask for a detailed response.

Why a formal refusal instead of detailed feedback
Basically, there is one reason - HR specialists are afraid of an inadequate reaction. If the applicant is convinced that he was underestimated and is an ideal candidate, then a truthful answer can cause negative emotions, in addition, the company risks getting bad ratings on the site.

If such candidates are given an objective reason, for example, that they were not suitable due to poor knowledge of English, then they begin to prove with all their might that this is not so and ask for a second meeting.

Sometimes the reason may be subjective, for social media marketing service example, the manager selects employees for the team based on their psychological type. Or it is important for the employer that the candidate shares the company's values. It is undesirable to give such feedback.

A recruiter can also conduct several interviews a day and simply not remember the moments that the management did not like. As a result, he sends a standard response to all those who did not pass the selection.

How to ask a recruiter for a detailed answer
It is important to understand that an HR specialist is not obliged to explain the decision, much less advise on job search. Therefore, be as polite as possible, conduct a constructive dialogue and do not put pressure on the interlocutor.

Call or write? - a good question, because in the digital age many people prefer to receive messages in messengers. But a call has an undeniable advantage: it is difficult to avoid an answer in a telephone conversation. The optimal solution is to write an email asking to call and discuss one issue. Here is an example of how you can formulate your request.

"Good day! I was rejected after an interview for the position of (title). But I want to continue my search in this direction, so your feedback and professional opinion would be very useful to me - why did I not suit you? Perhaps I lacked some knowledge or skills? I understand that you have a lot of work, but I would be very grateful if you could answer me."

If you have made a polite request and behaved tactfully in the conversation, then it is highly likely that you will be reciprocated and given detailed feedback.
